#100DAYSOFSUMMER: DAY 19 - SUMMER BEAUTY

This is a part of the #100DaysOfSummer project of The PR Girl Closet, and we are now on Day 19!

Day 19, 12:00 NN, Laguna, Philippines

Another hot, humid day... While people on the other side of the globe are freezing their asses out, us, in the Equator side are enjoying (?) the warm breeze of summer air. As I write this post, I am listening to The Sound You Need Summer Playlist, which reminds me of summer days by the beach with a cold glass of mojito on your left hand and a book of your choice on your right. Being the organized person that I am, I looked into my calendar right before I hit "New Post" on Blogger Dashboard, and saw that the upcoming days are rather not busy, almost no appointments at all (save for the requisite blog post that I have to write on a regular basis) which is I am not really accustomed to. So what to do in the free summer days? Plenty of days to write, send out that important application, help sister move to her new flat, learn something new like creating mini films, watch what I eat and take care of my skin.

Yes, today's post is all about taking care of your skin in this insane weather. Skincare isn't just about topical creams that you apply on your face and body on a daily basis. It's also about moving consistently, feeding your body with the right food and drowning your skin with water. I'm really bad at eating healthy. Oftentimes, I just pick up the phone, call McDonald's and have that greasy Spicy Chicken Sandwich delivered right to my doorstep.

Exactly two weeks ago, my best friend - who looks like a supermodel and is now very conscious (you won't believe it) of what she takes into her body - went to Singapore and we had enough time to catch up on what's happening to each other's lives. We used to share the love for eating everything greasy and sinful - chocolate ice cream and sodium-loaded chips on a late night, McDonald's cheeseburger and a take-out pizza for lunch, milk chocolates and diet Coke on basically any given time of the day. She used to be this supermodel friend who eats like a construction worker but still maintain that gorgeous skinny physique (yes, girls love to hate that right?).

But this time is different, she has now become a healthy-lifestyle-addict convert. And she made believe in it and practice it altogether too.

Women in their late 20s, just life myself and my friend, have to be conscious on what we put in our bodies. Whether it's a topical cream that promises you to stay young all your life, or a newly-discovered mineral that you have to ingest to achieve that covetable slim physique.

Here, I'm about to share with you the usual suspects that remain a regular in my beauty regimen.

Water. Don't underestimate the power of this cheap mineral. Removes toxins inside your body and cleanses you inside out.

Sunscreen. We are exposed to UV rays even when we're shaded so it's best to keep your skin shielded from the harmful effects of UV. I use L'oreal UV Perfect UV protector with SPF 50. When the right amount is applied, it's light and can be a nice foundation before you apply your makeup too.

The Basics. Cleanse, tone, moisturize is the three-word regimen that everyone, regardless of age, should adhere to. I use Clinique hard soap for sensitive skin, Clean & Clear toner and Olay moisturizer and anti-aging cream. They're all superb!

Oil. I'm allergic to lotion so I use body oil to keep moisture intact in my dried-out skin. Neutrogena sesame body oil is the best but since it's not available in some parts of the globe, I use Palmer's coconut body oil as a replacement and it acts as nice as well (although Neutrogena is lighter and smells nicer).

Mask. Face masks are the best especially if you've had an all-nighter and thinks your skin needs to breathe. I use any type of face mask that I get my hands into actually. Most of the time, I stick to those with Vitamin E or stem cell formula. Visit Watson's, Sephora or your local grocery and drugstore and stash some in your boudoir.

Makeup. I don't put a lot of makeup on my face since I find it sticky and not appropriate to the weather if I wear thick makeup. Makeup should accentuate and enhance your features, not hide it and act as a mask. I always put something in my eyes cause I think they're the best feature of my face. I use any drugstore brand of eyebrow pencil in dark brown to fill in the gaps in my eyebrows, The Body Shop and Maybelline eyeliners in dark brown and kohl black, Guerlain bronzer to enhance my tan, The Body Shop and MAC compact powder to keep the oil at bay, and lipsticks from MAC, Sephora, Revlon, Maybelline and other house brands, and Maybelline black mascara.

When I go to special occasions, I use foundation to keep my makeup last longer but I don't use it everyday since I feel like it's clogging my pores.

And last but not the least, try to eat healthy, avoid fast food as much as you can, keep on moving and do some exercise whether it's running, walking, cycling, swimming, anything. Watch what you eat and drink lots - and I mean LOTS - of water.

Enjoy the Equatorial summer!
