In the animal kingdom, female animals are blessed with the power to lure in their male counterparts through the use of scents, seductive movements and a change in colour of their feathers or skin. These amazing qualities give female animals an interesting way to cope up and survive the often dangerous setting of the animal kingdom. In the real world, females are blessed with the power to transform from a sweet girl to a fully-grown woman with just a change of hair style, eye makeup or lip colour. Attitude, of course, sums up and differentiates the woman from a girl but at a first glance, when a lady is wearing a lip colour as intense as fire-engine red, she, then, screams womanly confidence with a personality as powerful as that of Madonna.
I have never been a follower of red lip colour; I just find it too distracting and too loud. I once thought it's too powerful for my personality and it doesn't suit my skin tone and the shape of lips. During my adolescent years in an environment where a girl is deemed to be pretty when she has thin lips as that of Gwyneth Paltrow, I feel a little insecure when events are about to happen and photos are being taken. Born with a full lip, I have never imagined myself wearing lip colours as I thought it would highlight my often-described-as-big lips. High school years came and my classmates were all crazy about lip shines in the sweetest shade - and scent - of strawberry; I, on the other hand, opted for a non-shine, no-colour lip balm to keep my lips hydrated.
Years passed and Angelina Jolie became the woman where women idolise all over the world for her such great looks, superb talent, and a powerful seductive allure any man won't be able to resist. Her full lips became her armour in the endless battle of beauty. She stood out among the sea of women with thin lips and just like that, full lips became the definition of beauty. Cosmetic surgeons introduced lip fillers to give you that full lips a la Angelina, cosmetic companies launched lip products that "tinge and bite" and give you that full lips look. And right then and there, women born with full lips are considered beautiful and thus, shouldn't hide this God-given feature.
During this time, I slowly embrace the concept of putting on colour on my lips - not to scream to the world that I have this natural feature that people now consider as beautiful - but to highlight this feature which I once hid from all the world to see. I gradually incorporated lip colour in my daily makeup regimen - ranging from pink to taupe, red to plum, glossy to matte.
These days, I find myself obsessing about plum lip colour. I just find it very sophisticated and womanly. When I wear this lip colour, I feel beautiful and sexy. For this post, I mixed up dark plum with matte pink to create a colour that is not too dark so it will match any day look.
Hope you like it! X
