HOLIDAY

Temperature's dropping down (in my mind, at least), merchandise at shopping malls and online shopping sites are on sale, twinkling fancy lights are everywhere and suddenly it's the season of Santa Claus once again.

Apparently, this is a late post. I have always planned to put up a new blog but I never thought I can do it on the first day of the year (of all days huh) so here I am, rounding up the (outfits of the) holidays. As I type this post away, I am on my 5th and last week of stay in the Philippines. When it comes to celebrating Christmas, my family is a bit traditional.

5 days prior to Christmas eve: My sister and I will start scouring the shops for nice dress and shoes. Yeah this is a big deal for us, just like when a bridesmaid is looking for that perfect dress to wear for her best friend's wedding.

3 days prior to Christmas eve: Preparing the menu is not that of a big deal. My mum can plan a feast at any given time. She's very talented at that. Being a bit of picky diners my sister and I are, we will review the menu and oftentimes, edit almost half of it. I am always craving for pasta (I consider it a comfort food) so the suggestion of having the ever-popular Yellow Cab's Charlie Chan pasta came in and we found ourselves looking for the perfect recipe online. I am sharing the recipe we found with you at the end of this post.

1 day prior to Christmas eve: Recharging the batteries of cameras and another round of fitting will commence. Mama will hear the clicking of high heels as my sister and I walk our way towards the living room in our mighty new high heels. In these moments, I feel like a kid again trying on mum's shoes. The feeling is divine!

Christmas eve itself:  My sister and I will be primping up for at least 1 hour (shower not included). Traditions are going to the church to hear the Christmas eve mass then back home for noche buena (Christmas eve dinner). The thrill of opening gifts are long gone for me since I believe this is just for the kids so we can skip that part.

Post 12 midnight: After taking lots (and I mean LOTS. My feet are killing me for standing up posing in front of the camera) of photos, my sister will upload it on my mum's Facebook page (so we won't be too embarassed of flooding our friends' newsfeed with photos. Haha! Mama doesn't mind anyway).

Meanwhile, have a Charlie Chan pasta:

Ingredients:
1 whole boneless chicken breast
1/3 cup olive oil
3 tbs. sesame seed oil
1 pc. onion (If, like my sister, you love onion, you can put up to 3 pieces)
2 garlic cloves (I skipped this part since I don't like garlic)
1/4 tbs. char siu sauce
1/4 teaspoon chili garlic sauce (since I skipped the onion part, I put more chili garlic sauce. I like my food spicy)
9 tbs. oyster sauce
1/8 cup sugar
4 tbs. water
1 kg. cooked pasta
1 cup of peanuts
1 cup of shitake mushrooms

Directions:
Saute onion and garlic in olive oil
Cook chicken until brown and tender
Mix sesame oil, char siu sauce, oyster sauce, chili garlic and sugar in a bowl
Add the sauce to chicken and simmer for a few minutes

Serves up to 8 (depending on how much you eat). Enjoy!
